Wind & Sea in Big Sur has become one of our favorite venues to shoot weddings. And when Emily and Andrew asked us to create their California wedding video last fall at Wind & Sea, we were completely on board! We also loved getting to tell their love story that was slightly unconventional. Read on to hear all about it!

Best Friends and Life Partners

Emily and Andrew actually began their relationship as best friends in high school and then college. As they say, “absence makes the heart grow fonder” and this was certainly true for Emily and Andrew. When Emily spent a semester studying abroad, the two realized they didn’t want to be apart and that’s when their official relationship began.

Over the following years, they built a life together—careers, dreams, and eventually a family. Their family grew to two children and two fur babies. While they were married in every sense of the word, they decided to make it official last October. When Andrew proposed, he had their daughter bring Emily a rose with a note that said “I love you.” He got down on one knee and asked Emily to marry him!

California Wedding Video at Wind & Sea

We had the honor of filming Emily and Andrew’s wedding film at Wind & Sea in Big Sur, along with our dear friend and wedding photographer, Coryn Nelson. The wedding was beautiful and intimate, with their three-year-old daughter as the flower girl and their one-year-old son as their ring bearer. They exchanged hand written vows with the sound of the ocean in the background and slipped away for intimate moments—just to two of them.

Some of their other favorite moments from the wedding were their daughter sneaking into join their first dance and Emily dancing with her spirited and stubborn grandmother. And perhaps the most impressive parts of being married right by the sea was when the caterer told them the fish in the ceviche was caught by her husband that very morning!

While Emily admittedly shared in her vows that not much would change after their nuptials, they both promised to continue to love each other and spend their future together, raising their children and enjoying the precious moments of life.
