At Aflātis, we always love shooting a Chicago wedding video! It’s so fun to get to incorporate creative aspects of the city into the film. But when Rachel and Tom reached out to us about filming their wedding, we were extra excited. See, we already knew Rachel from filming her sister and brother-in-law’s wedding—Jessica + George. We knew the chemistry would be amazing since we’d already worked with their family and loved them! Check out their story below!
Not Really Dating
Rachel and Tom first met working for Publican Quality Meats, a quaint neighborhood butcher shop in the West Loop of Chicago. They became friends quickly going out for drinks with co-workers after work. Rachel and Tom’s friendship deepened as they started to go out, just the two of them.
However, they were adamant they weren’t dating even though they were spending more and more time together. Rachel even declared herself to be Tom’s wingwoman. But ultimately the two fell in love, and after a few months they finally admitted what was already obvious to everyone else!
After about two years of dating (if you count the time they were in denial about their relationship) Tom surprised Rachel with the most perfectly intimate proposal. The day after Rachel’s birthday, in their new apartment, the two were just hanging out with their new puppy, Finn. Finn started barking at another dog out the window and Rachel followed him to get him to stop making such a racket. But when Rachel turned around, Tom was down on his knee, asking Rachel to be his wife. Pajamas and all, Rachel of course said yes!
A Perfect Chicago Wedding Video
Rachel and Tom were such a fun couple to record, and capturing their love story in the city was a dream! Their wedding was a stunning Catholic wedding at the Madonna della Strada Chapel at Loyola University Chicago. One of their favorite features of their wedding was that a Rolls Royce, “The Cloud,” picked them up after the ceremony and drove them to the reception at The University Club. It gave them time to just soak in those first moments of being married in private. They also had some treasured time away from the crowd during their photo and video shoot on the 12th floor balcony at The University Club.
But as much as they loved these private moments, being surrounded by their closest friends and family from all the different chapters of their lives was the highlight of the entire event. With the help of their vendor team and family and friends, they pulled off an incredible beautifully classic Chicago wedding.
As for the Next Chapter…
After their wedding, Rachel and Tom relaxed and celebrated with a trip to Maui, Hawaii. Between a helicopter ride, the infinity pool, and other fun excursions, they had a magical time. And now, the two are expecting a new addition to their family this September, right around their one-year anniversary! We couldn’t be more happy for you, Rachel + Tom! “Adam was actually my sister’s videographer a few years back…and when my sister’s teaser and eventual video came out, I remember just bawling and watching it over and over again… Fast forward a few months (with a ring on my finger) and Adam was my first email… Leading up to the wedding he was just so organized, communicative, and easy-going.
Adam is nothing short of a creative genius. Professionally speaking, I am in awe of his talents and how he makes wedding videography so much more than just capturing the ceremony and reception. His whole focus is about the couple, and that is truly how it is supposed to be. Adam invests time into getting to know the couple themselves and this truly translates into the final edited film.
On a personal note, Adam is just such a delight. His personality definitely shines behind his lenses and that is so incredibly important as well. He doesn’t just possess the technical skills- he is just so good with people and navigating scenery and circumstances that may arise. He is in total control, all the time… We love you, Adam!!”
